I’m ashamed to admit, that after almost 12 months of living in Leeds, I hadn’t heard of 2 Oxford Place until yesterday. I’m so glad I’ve found this hidden little gem!!
Located in a town house at the side of the City’s Library and Art Gallery, you feel instantly at home in this quirky and intimate little place. More importantly though the food was simply delicious, with an ample menu choice, and a separate vegetarian menu.
It also serves a variety of vegan and dairy free food, boasting a 100% Gluten free kitchen. To top it off the restaurant won the UKs Best of Free From Award 2015!
For my starter I actually picked from the vegetarian menu. I went for the Avocado Timbale (layered celeriac remoulade, avocado & pomegranate). It was light, earthy with a sharpness from the pomegranate that worked wonderfully. My friend opted for the Breaded Brie, served with red peppers and a sweet & sour sauce. We swapped dishes halfway through so we could enjoy both dishes!
I chosed the Tarragon Chicken dish for my main course. It consisted of roasted Chicken thighs with Thyme & Rosemary, Fondant Potatoes, mixed veg and a beautiful Tarragon infused cream sauce. The Vegetarian Sausage & Mash dish was my friends choice.
We just had enough room for desert. I went for something light with a Coconut Creme Brûlée. Which had a slightly runnier consistency compared to your regular Creme Brûlée, but was still tasty. Sticky Toffee Pudding was the other option, which I stoled some off from friends plate, it was one of the best I’ve ever tasted.
The total bill came to £30 for 3 courses plus a glass of wine (a large one!), which is more than reasonable. The service was also excellent, the girls serving us were more than happy to answer our questions.
2 Oxford Place also serves Brunch, Lunch and Afternoon Tea. I would book in advance though especially for large groups.
